Revealed in court filings (which were first noticed by NetworkWorld ) is a prototype/mock up (“035”) for an Apple tablet created between 2002 and 2004 — years before the iPad came out. It still looks a lot like an iPad! But also like the old plastic iBook. Man oh man it is HUGE. And here it is in full color.
It's taller and wider than iPad we know, with a white plastic back that resembled the iBook at the time.
And it's nearly an inch thick, which would be way more awkward to hold than the current iPad's .37-inches. (We'd also guess a fatter iPad is a heavier iPad.)
From every other angle, it looks crazy retro — but the front it doesn't look so different from the iPad we know and love, does it?
